Around the world in seven hairstyles with Sharon Blain for Camilla

Only the sensational Sharon Blain could direct this world tour of hair for the Camilla Gypsette collection. It was one of the most theatrical and beautiful shows at Australian fashion week.

Behind the Scenes

Each model wore a specially prepared hair extension representing one of seven cultures that had inspired Camilla’s colourful collection. The unifying feature is the top bun with extension pieces fitted underneath and trailing at the back.

The intricate braiding and fabric weaving in the hairpieces took weeks to complete, and was an almost cathartic experience for Sharon and her team who worked tirelessly to design and create the looks.

There were Asian inspired bobs with floral headpieces, Navaho fishtail braids, colourful Brazilian carnival braids, and indigenous woven dreadlocks – each capturing the bohemian spirit of the Gypsette collection.

To hold these complicated styles together Sharon used Goldwell StyleSign products. She prepped the hair with Hot Form before blowdrying it, then finished with a little bit of the Diamond Gloss and a strong hairspray. Sharon loves the Magic Finish Hairspray for that extra hold factor.

Hairstyle inspiration

These catwalks creations aren’t looks to copy in their entirety, but to take inspiration from the pieces that make up the whole.

Colour - Use clip in extensions or hair shadow to add temporary colour to your hair

Accessories - go wild with beautiful flowers and woven accessories to bring out your inner gypsy

The finished looks

Each world look featured a different gem in the corner of the eye. The makeup by Napoleon Perdis for Napoleon was inspired by the glamorous gypsetter. Napoleon called it a “refined gypsy” look. The eyes were the focus with a smokey pencil and glitter under the eye, with a just bitten lip stain using Napoleon Front Row Red Lip Gloss.

Wear some flowers in your hair this summer and release your inner gypsy.

Have you ever tried coloured clip in extensions to change your hair?
