Brides with short hair – wedding hairstyle ideas

I’ve been pondering a question for a long time, why do so many brides grow their hair for their wedding day?

There seems to be a common phenomenon I’ve observed where the bride grows her hair for her wedding day, only to wear it up and then ends up cutting it all off about a month later. The new short cut looks amazing and suits her personality so much more you wonder why she ever grew her hair in the first place.

I can hear you say, “but I want to wear a braided updo”, or “long hair is more versatile” but short can be even more fun to play with.

If you’re still set on an intricate upstyle, why not try clip in extensions? Your hairstylist will probably use them anyway to add volume, and they can be coloured to match your hair so you can have your dream wedding hairstyle.

However if you love short hair, embrace it and get a great haircut for your wedding day. Hair Romance is all about loving your hair, and I believe hair should reflect your personality.

Here’s some hairspiration for the short haired bride.

So how did I wear my hair when I got married? I was in the “I’m growing my hair” camp too. And yes, I wore it up. It was curled into a gorgeous loosely pinned upstyle. I’ve been growing it ever since my wedding with only a few layers or trims in between. I’m kind of itching to cut my hair again but I will be keeping it long for now as I have some more tutorials planned as part of my next project.

How did you wear your hair when you got married?

Have you noticed this phenomenon of brides who get great haircuts after their wedding? Were you one of them?

I fell into the growing camp, I’d been growing my very short hair out, managed to get it into a shoulder length bob. Then we had a mini heatwave in October in UK, and I had mad frizz and only felt comfortable with my hair scraped up in a stubby ponytail, and couldn’t imagine what I’d do with hair for December wedding. So it got cropped off again and I rocked a short do!

I just wore my hair normally. I did it myself and added the vail. My hair was short like the last photo. I was not worried about my hair at all, kind of the last thing I thought of. I guess i thought there was no point trying to do anything fancy because it was so short and I would have the vail on and no one would notice anyway. I had gorgeous makeup & I was thrilled with that.

My friend had gorgeous long hair for her wedding I have a feeling it had some clip in’s in it. She now has short hair so I guess she was one of those brides that got the chop afterwards.

I was also in the “want to grow my hair for my wedding day” and still had an extension bunched into the loose side curls, but I’ve been growing since then, until my next chop (maybe in summer)..
Your short cut Saturday posts really tempt me to chop again (as I do every couple of years) but I’ll hold off for a while so I can continue trying out longer do’s.
Thanks for such a great blog, Christina!! Trying to catch up on the first year I’ve missed =)
And looking forward to another ebook.

Thanks so much Patricia! I think I keep teasing myself between growing my hair for big hair Friday or cutting it on Saturdays too…

My best friend totally did that. Like two weeks after her wedding she lopped off all of her hair. I’m currently growing my hair out… but not just for my wedding! I just want to have long hair. Although being the only one of my sisters with short hair is kinda fun right now.

Oh no, I almost wish you hadn’t blogged that…
Am currently growing hair out for our October wedding. I had a pixie about 3 years ago, been slowly growing, chopping, growing, chopping; I was totally loving the bob in between, and that’s what I’ve been planning to go back to post-wedding.
I love Florence Welch’s hair, so that’s what I’m aiming for (mine is also red), but now I’m unsure!!
    I’m wearing a 50s tea-length dress, any suggestions for a hair-do? Short or long?

You have just got me thinking, why do all brides seem to “grow their hair” for their weddings? Especially after looking at these shots short could be the way to go.

I’m getting married in September, and all my friends and family (well not ALL, but a fair sized group of them) are all encouraging me to grow my hair out for my wedding. I’ve had quite short hair for a while now, in a kind of choppy pixie cut, and I really don’t want to. I’ve been looking at what pictures I can find, but as I’m wearing a veil for mine, I was wondering if anyone had some pictures of funky styles with a veil for short haired brides?

If you like your hair short you should keep it that way Sian. I’ll have a look for some pictures for you too x

Thank you! FINALLY a pag that claims to have short haired brides and ACTUALLY DOES!

I would love 20’s style finger waves but my hair is too short for that and I don’t want to grow it out. So I am most probably just going to tizz it up a bit like I do most days.

@Sian perhaps something like this? http://pinterest.com/pin/235383517994453013/

I think initially there is a traditional idea that long hair is romantic, but your article totally busts that myth. Look at how angelic and romantic all of those brides’ do’s are. Answer: there’s no right or wrong!

…and yes, I’m one of those “growing the hair” brides! I started growing my hair from boy-short 4 years ago just to see how long it would grow. When we got engaged I decided to keep growing for our wedding, and then cut it into something fun and sexy afterwoods. Now, our wedding is in two weeks (!), my hair is sooooo long, it seems to have a life of it’s own and I totally love it. I think I’m gonna keep it!

THANK YOU for posting this! I have a pixie cut and have been struggling with the idea of growing my hair out to a bob or something for my wedding. These pics are the perfect inspiration for me to stay true to myself and rock the pixie on our big day :)
