Let’s get to know each other a little better!
I’ve seen this tag floating around on Instagram and on some other blogs like Beautyholics Anonymous and I thought I would join in too.
I love finding out more about my favourite bloggers and I love random facts. If you’re not interested, don’t worry, I’ll be back with more hair stories tomorrow. 🙂
25 Random things about me
- I love surprises. I love the excitement of surprises and I love guessing games too. On road trips, my husband makes me guess what he’s thinking of and he laughs at the random suggestions I come up with. I also love organising surprises for people but I get too excited and keeping it secret is so hard!
- I love birthdays – they’re awesome. I like to try and convert people who don’t like theirs. It makes me sad when people ignore their birthday. It seems such a shame not to have a special day just for you.
- I studied ballet for 10 years. I love all kinds of dance and also studied jazz for 5 years. I think I did a year of tap too but don’t ask me to do a routine! When I realised I’d never be the right build for a ballerina I decided to quit. I keep thinking about going back for some casual classes.
- Before I started blogging I didn’t read beauty blogs – I didn’t really know they existed! I was really into design and photography blogs. Now my Feedly reader is full of all different kinds of blogs. I just wish I had more time to read them all.
- I’ve lived in 4 different countries – Australia, Fiji, France and England. I grew up in Australia and lived in Fiji as a baby when my dad was working there. I went to high school in France and moved to England to be with my boyfriend (now husband) Jim. We love Australia but I still get itchy feet and love to travel.
- I was crowned the best-looking baby boy when we lived in Fiji! My mum shielded me from the truth saying that the other little girl was older than me, but really she was the best looking girl and I won the boy category. My sister revealed the truth a few years ago. The only thing that made me feel better was that I was the overall winner. It’s my only pageant claim to fame.
- I didn’t have any hair until I was 2. Even then I only grew baby fluff hair. I think this might have helped me win the trophy in Fiji!
- I had straight blonde hair until I was about 10 years old. Only then did it start to become wavy and eventually really curly. That’s why it took me so long to figure out how to style my hair. Maybe it helped me understand straight and curly hair better?
- I used to wear glasses. I had terrible eyesight and I had laser eye surgery to correct it. From time to time I actually miss wearing glasses. I’m thinking about just getting some frames to wear for fun.
- I like to see the big picture and I’m good at making decisions quickly. I love being creative and come up with lots of ideas. I just wish I had enough time to do them all.
- I’m not good at finishing things. I have so many unfinished projects! I get distracted by the next idea and have to force myself to come back and finish what I started. I need a deadline to get something done and always seem to be working right until the last minute.
- I love parties – especially costume parties. We have a bar at home and have hosted a few fancy dress parties. I love a good theme and love planning the food and decorations. My next party project is my birthday party; I didn’t have time to have one in December so I’ll have one in March instead!
- I always find a great spot to hang out at a party or bar. It’s a weird talent but it’s very useful. You’ll find me right in the middle of the action, and I’ll always be close to the food.
- I can paint my nails very quickly. Growing up, it was a joke in my family that Mum would only paint her nails as we were leaving the house. Now I understand why she would do it as they would dry while she was driving. I can now paint my nails really fast and so rarely get manicures. Instead I like to give myself a speed mani at home while watching TV or reading on my iPad.
- I mimic accents and the way people speak. I don’t mean to and if I actually try, it sounds all wrong. When I moved to England I had a full British accent in less than a month. If I’m talking to someone, I pick up their accent straight away. It’s embarrassing as it can look like I’m making fun of people.
- I love to travel. It’s a passion of mine and one of the reasons I started Mr & Mrs Romance with my husband. I love sharing travels stories and finding new places to visit. As I travel I often think about what it would be like to live in a place. I’d like to live overseas again for a while.
- I’ve travelled to 28 different countries and feel like I’ve hardly scratched the surface of places I want to visit.
- I love road trips. I’m an ok driver but I prefer to be the navigator. I love reading maps and planning out the journey. We’ve only got lost a few times but they have turned out to be pretty epic stories…
- I know how to develop film and print photos in a darkroom. I studied photography at school and university.
- My first job was as a sports photographer. I have always loved photography and I learnt a lot from a weekend job assisting a sports photographer while I was still at school. I went back to photography when I started Hair Romance.
- Hair Romance was only meant to be a side project. I’m so grateful that it grew and has become so much more. I never thought of myself as a writer; English was my worst subject at school. I fell in love with the visual side of blogging and now love everything about it. I have learnt so much about myself and about business since I started.
- I love heights. I love the feeling of being up high with an amazing view. The higher the better.
- I live in the city and love the convenience of having everything in walking distance. We don’t own a car anymore and just use cabs or hire a car when we need one.
- I love having fresh flowers at home. It’s a shame I’m terrible at gardening and have killed many houseplants – even succulents.
- I love swimming in big waves. Ever since I had laser eye surgery I love swimming in the sea. I love to float on the waves out past the breakers. The great thing about Sydney is the beach is so close to the city.
I’d love to know a little more about you so tell me something fun about you in the comments, or if you blog, leave a link to your post.

BEST 25 things you didn’t know about me EVER!
I love surprises too, though I usually figure them out before hand and I LOVE celebrating my birthday.
Something you might not know about me…. I played the piano, trumpet and french horn.
Hair Romance says
wow I did not know you were so musical! I am the opposite, I love dance but hopeless at music. Huzzah for birthdays and surprises xx

Love reading posts like this – love finding out these little things about a person! Believe it or not I too did ballet for 10 years (something that cracks Ant up because I am completely devoid of grace and coordination). And I do that accent thing to. I don’t know why?!
Hair Romance says
Thanks Kelly! I don’t know where my ballet skills went either as I’m quite clumsy. Glad to hear that accent thing is pretty normal, I get teased about it a lot 😉
Brooke says
Hi Christina,
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this post!! A great way for followers view your character from another perspective. You did an absolute cracker with your list.
I’m one of four children in my family and we continually mimic other accents, it makes for some hilarious memories.
Anyway, great post, keep it up, we’ll worth the read!
Hair Romance says
Thanks so much Brooke! I had fun writing this, I might do another list soon x
Sonia from Sonia Styling says
This is so cool! I feel like I’ve gotten to know you a little better and if it was even possible, I like you even more! Random fact about me: I saw John Mayer player a gig in Adelaide in a pub before he made it big. He signed my CD and I got a kiss. (I was younger, thinner and single back then!)
Hair Romance says
Thanks beautiful! and that is a very, very cool random fact xx
Laney | Crash Test Mummy says
The most unusual fact about me is that I was once caught by an octopus! Dragged me right off the beach, not a word of a lie! I was 3.
Hair Romance says
That is freaky Laney! And kind of cool x
Natalia says
This is great! I loved reading them! I didn’t know you went to high school in France, that’s awesome! Do you speak French then? Also amazing how many countries you’ve been able to visit. That’s a dream of mine but with my husband rarely getting any time off, it doesn’t look like it will be much of a reality any time soon. Oh and I also had lasik eye surgery. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made! Love it!
Grit & Glamour™ (@gritandglamour) says
Loved reading more about you, Christina. I, too, didn’t have hair until after age two. Well, I had strawberry blond peach fuzz. I actually was sans hair for so long, I actually verbally corrected people who called me a boy! Guess we caught up in the hair game. 😉
Natalie says
15! YES! I am the worst at it, I don’t often even realise i’m doing it! When I used to work in the Convention industry I used to have to be so careful because I never wanted to offend anyone!
Kats says
Lovely list!
I love roadtrips as well but for some reason I’m terrified driving myself in a foreign country 🙂
What I love about travelling the most is returning to my home town and feeling like a boss – knowing exactly where the coolest places are, where the best food is, where one can get the best haircut etc.
I love blues(music) and all my friends hate it. So I have to go to the concerts alone or listen to it on my “free time” 🙂
I guess some of my “funny stuff” is what I call normal behavior but other people would disagree 😀
Katia Audrey says
Well, I can tell you I laughed a lot.. I too mimic other accents (and I’m good at it lol), I too studied ballet for 6 years and my grandma was so sad when I was a baby because I barely had any hair at all. Now my hair is so thick that my hairdresser says I carry two heads on my head! I love road trips as well and I didn’t know beauty blogs existed until I’ve started out mine 😉 Yours is amazing. Have a wonderful day!

Hi there,
I’ve enjoyed following your blog since it was first mentioned on Primped.
I love finding out more about the people behind the blogs I follow, though sometimes I’ll admit it makes me a little envious – how can they be that smart, gorgeous, funny, talented AND delightful?!
I love dance and costume parties, too! (Especially when it gives me an excuse to pull out my tutu, or handmade Snow White costume).
I recently did something similar to this when I started my blog: http://resolutionsix.blogspot.com.au/2014/02/my-favourite-things.html
Lovely to get to know you better!
Vicki says
I love hearing things like this. I will have to on my blog as well. Lovely getting to know more about you.
Emily says
I loved this! Such a great idea for a post. Costume parties are my absolute favorite!
Hair Romance says
thanks Emily! I think the costumes help people mingle and have more fun. We still refer to one of our first costume parties to help different friends remember each other
Nikki @ Styling You says
I “starred” alongside Kylie Minogue in The Delinquents! She completely ignored me.
PS. Love this list and can vouch for your interpretive dancing prowess! x
Hair Romance says
That is an awesome claim to fame Nikki! How could I forget to include my interpretive dancing? Gold x
Vanessa says
I am always starting things (or wanting to start things) and never finishing them. My husband tells me that if I’m on the phone to someone I put on an English accent haha. I blame it on having been to school there as a kid.
Hair Romance says
Haha I think I have a special phone accent too Vanessa!
Averil says
I had laser eye surgery done too- that first swim in the ocean was so wonderful! I’m so glad I had it done.
I love road trips too, one of my favourite ones that we’ve done is driving over the Hay plains and down through the Barossa Valley to Adelaide.
Hair Romance says
Isn’t that first swim the best? For a long time I kept forgetting I had my eyes fixed and would look for my glasses when I woke up. I would also touch my nose to push up my glasses and realise I wasn’t wearing any! Love the Barossa, that would be a beautiful drive. We’re off to Melbourne tomorrow and looking forward the drive x
Julia says
Me too, with picking up accents. Can’t help it, and it IS embarrassing sometimes! Love your blog, and your curly hair tips have saved me. Thanks!
Hair Romance says
Thanks Julia! I feel so much better about the accents thing now x
Amanda Gonzalez says
Thanks for sharing a little about yourself, Christina. Keeping quiet about surprises is terribly difficult, isn’t it? I just want to share the excitement – and the more time passes, the harder it is to keep the surprise to myself!
I’ve put together a similar list here: http://andthenamanda.com/about. I really enjoy reading unrelated tidbits about the person behind the blog, so I thought it would be a good start for my (I’m still trying to figure out what I’m doing) blog!
Hair Romance says
Thanks Amanda! It’s a great idea to do this on your about page! Reminds me I need to update mine… (refer to not finishing things lol!) Off to read your list now x
Tine @ Beautyholics Anonymous says
OMG I’m with you on mimicking accents! I couldn’t help it; wherever I am, I pick it up very quickly and it’s terrible because my friends who were with me thought I was such a poser trying to fit in. I wasn’t trying to fit in or trying to make fun of them at all but whenever I try speaking to the locals in my Malaysian accent, they have no freaking clue what I’m saying. So I adopt theirs instead. I picked up an American accent the first week I was there (when I was 11, I went there for 2 weeks). I spoke in a British accent when I studied in the UK. I spoke in godawful broken Japanese English when I worked in Japan (couldn’t speak proper English; most people didn’t understand me when I did). I picked up the Australian accent the slowest, I don’t know why. Now people think I grew up here. Hee hee hee!
Hair Romance says
Glad I’m not the only one Tine! I can hardly hear myself doing it until someone points it out. When I came back to Sydney from the UK (with my English accent) I worked for a Kiwi company and with South Africans and I developed the weirdest accent. Your Australian accent is very good, and it’s one of the hardest ones to mimic x
