3 ways to style a pixie cut

The trend for pixie cuts continues and I am very happy about that. I love short hair, and had a pixie cut for a while myself.

Now with Hair Romance, I’m keeping my hair long for braids so my lovely friend Barbs is helping with today’s tutorial.

Short hair doesn’t mean you only have one style. It’s so versatile and easy to switch up your look with a pixie cut. Hair accessories are key. They’ll give you a completely different feel to these 3 classic hairstyles.

1. Pixie hairstyles – Sleek part

Keep it sleek and chic with a deep side part and statement accessory.

How to get the look:

1. Create a deep side part. Looking straight ahead in the mirror, draw an imaginary line from the outer edge of your iris, through your eyebrow arch to your hairline. This is the perfect place for your part.
2. Blowdry your hair directionally. To ensure your hair stays in place, dampen your hair and blowdry it with a brush to smooth it. Tuck the other side behind your ear. You can use a smoothing cream to control any frizz.
3. Choose your accessory. We’ve layered some chic black and white pins from Lady Jayne to create this monochrome hair accessory.
4. Finish with a spritz of hairspray. Keep it sleek with hairspray, or pomade if you have thick hair.

2. Pixie hairstyles – Sharp side

Contrast a sharp side with lightly textured hair. 

How to get the look:

1. Part your hair in side part. You can go for a deep side part like above or a regular side part.
2. Add some texture. Spray dry shampoo to your hair to give it a little more body and texture. We used Kerastase Powder Bluff which is a light styling powder. It leaves no white residue in your hair and adds volume without weighing it down.
3. Smooth back the short side. Pin back your hair on the same side as your part. Smooth it flat and place your statement pins level with your ear. We used Lady Jayne pins.

3. Pixie hairstyles – Curly pin back

Mess it up with curls and a quiff.

How to get the look:

1. Curl your hair. If you’re not blessed with curly hair, grab your curling wand. The Cloud Nine Micro Wand is my favourite for short hair. It’s easy to wrap sections of hair around the small barrel. Barbs’ hair is normally hard to curl but this was a breeze. You can spray sections with hairspray before curling if your hair won’t hold a curl.
2. Work in small sections, curling away from your face. For this look curl the top sections up and back.
3. Break up the curls. Once your hair is cool, run your fingers through to create messy waves, rather than neat curls.
4. Pin back the front. Loosely pin back the front layers of your hair to make a messy quiff. Finish with a spritz of hairspray if you need it.
