When Sephora opens in Australia it will be totally overwhelming. Here’s a sneak peek and what’s coming and what brands are at the top of my wish list.
I can’t believe it’s actually happening. After many, many rumours, Sephora will finally open in Australia!
The first store in Pitt St Mall, Sydney, is set to open on December 5.
For you lucky US readers who don’t know life without Sephora, you won’t understand what a big deal this is.
Australia has always had hugely inflated prices on beauty and Sephora is planning to price match their US rates.
This surprised me as I was expecting higher prices here because of higher overheads like transport costs, rent and wages. There may be some slightly higher prices but Sephora says they are really trying to maintain parity with US pricing.
I was thrilled to be invited to a sneak peek of some of the brands Sephora will carry in Australia and my wish list is overflowing.
Here’s the full list of exclusive brands that Sephora will carry:
- Alterna
- Andrea Fulerton
- Antonym
- Arcona
- Aspar
- BECCA
- BITE
- Clean
- Cover FX
- Crème Simon
- Dr.Jart
- Elizabeth and James
- Estelle & Thild
- Etat Libre d’Orange
- For Beloved One
- Formula X
- Givenchy Colour
- Hello Kitty
- IT Cosmetics
- Kat Von D
- Leif
- LQD
- MAKE UP FOREVER
- Marc Jacobs Beauty
- Nee’mah
- Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics
- Ole Henriksen
- Patricks
- Percy & Reed
- Perfekt
- Sephora Collection
- Shiffa
- Skin Inc.
- Tarte
I’ve heard that there may be more added to this list so watch this space! There’s also still no word on Urban Decay but I will keep you posted.
But which brands are top of my wishlist?
1. Percy & Reed
UK hair brand Percy & Reed is one of Sephora’s best sellers in Asia and this is the first time it will be available in Australia. Percy aka Paul Percival came to Sydney for the launch and I was super excited to get some time in the chair with him while he was here. Paul has a stellar client list and has worked in the music industry for year. He’s currently Cheryl Cole’s stylist for X Factor and he’s even done Madonna’s hair! I got pretty excited when I heard he also worked with the Spice Girls in the 90s and Mel C is still a regular client in his London salon.
I loved how he styled my hair (above) and I made quite a wishlist from the range. Top picks are the Eau My Goodness Shine & Fragrance Spray that smells amazing, Radiance Revealing Invisible Dry Shampoo (which really is invisible) and Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Balm which is like a primer for your hair.
2. Tarte
I hear about US brand Tarte Cosmetics on blogs all the time and it was great to see the products in real life. They are cruelty-free and call themselves high performance naturals. No products contain parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, triclosan, sodium lauryl sulfate or gluten.
Top of my list for Tarte are the Amazonian clay 12-hour blushes which are beautiful to wear, lights, camera, lashes 4-in-1 mascara (one of their best sellers) and their maracuja oil. Maracuja is a rare Amazonian fruit that looks like passionfruit and is super high in vitamin C.
3. Givenchy
I am a sucker for luxury lines but the Givenchy products are so gorgeous I can’t resist. Sometimes high end brands can be disappointing but Givenchy products are stunning.
My picks are the Le Prisme Eyeshadow Quartet in Sienna Silhouette, the Le Prisme Blush Powder Blush in Aficionado Peach (both incredibly pigmented) and the Mister Light Instant Light Corrective Pen for and instant highlight and brighten up.
4. Antonym
A new find, Antonym, really surprised me. This eco brand offers certified organic and natural makeup that is highly pigmented and in sustainable packaging too. I love the bamboo compacts!
With only a small range, there wasn’t a product I didn’t like but the baked powders and eye shadow quads are top of my list for the stunning packaging. Also check out their brushes which are vegan and cruelty free too.
5. Marc Jacobs
Finally the Marc Jacobs Beauty range will be available in Australia. While this is old news for the US, we’re pretty excited about it here.
Top of my wishlist are the O!Mega lash volumising mascara, the Perfection Powder and the gift sets offer excellent value.
I should probably add the Sephora collection to the list too. I can’t wait to shop their own brand too. The Christmas gift packs are fantastic.
Aussie readers, get ready to go shopping in December 8. US readers can shop my picks now, you lucky things!

Are you excited about Sephora coming to Australia? Tell me your fave products or brands from Sephora xx
I live for Sephora’s chunky house brand eyeliners. Can’t wait to have them at my fingertips, instead of having to wait for my next trip!
Me too! And I think they’ll put pressure on other brands to lower prices to be comparable to the US too!
congratulations! ha! i was SO excited when we got a sephora in my town (i live in the us). the most exciting stuff to see in person has to be marc jacobs because the packaging of the whole range is just outstanding. kat von d products are all winners too.
ooh I want to try kat von d as well! My wishlist is getting out of control… xx
I have been waiting for this since discovering sephora when in America! Hello heaven and goodbye savings! I’m excited for Tarte – I have one blush and it’s amaze! Also bite beauty lipsticks and makeup forever.
haha it’s definitely goodbye savings for me too Denise! I’ve just discovered Bite beauty too and love them.
I can’t wait for Sephora to open here! I dragged my poor husband into so many Sephora stores in Europe. I’m really looking forward to Tarte, it looks amazing, but also Formula X – I bought one of their nail polishes on a whim in Europe and I love it! Can’t wait to get more colours!!
Formula X is great isn’t it? Sephora has so many amazing products! I’m so excited for them to be in Sydney x
So happy you’re getting a Sephora!
after all the runours, I’m so excited it’s actually happening 🙂
oohh how exciting! Do you know if they will sell online too for those of us not in Sydney??
Hi Steph, no word as yet unfortunately. I think they’ll set up Sydney first and once it’s all up and running they may roll out an online store x
Your hair in this photo looks amazing – it’s the kind of look I’ve been trying to achieve with my own (very similar) hair lately – I would LOVE to know how you did it? x
Thanks Jess! I can’t take any credit – it was all Percy. After washing my hair, he used the Wonder Balm to prep my hair then applied the volumising mousse. He blowdried my hair with a round brush in small sections. He twisted the brush as he went to add the curl my hair. He also went over the curl with a large curling wand so that it would last. He finished with the hair perfume shine spray. This blowdry lasted for days in my hair too. For doing this at home, the large curling wand is the secret. I can’t blowdry my own hair this well but the curling wand I can do xx
Can’t wait to get my hands on Tarte! I need their blushes! 🙂
