7 ways to fix a bad hair day

Hair Romance - 7 ways to fix a bad hair day

Last week I was having one of those days. I was in a bit of funk and to top it off, my hair was just wasn’t behaving.

It was a bad hair day.

So I turned to my lovely facebook community to find out your tips on how to fix a bad hair day.

1. Dry shampoo

Stacey & Nicole both recommend using lots of dry shampoo.

If you don’t love dry shampoo, maybe you’re making one of these 3 mistakes with dry shampoo.

2. Re-wet or re-wash your hair

Summer admits that sometimes you just need to start over and re-wet or re-wash your hair.

Are you washing your hair properly? Check out these 10 tips for great hair.

3. Straighten your hair

Angela says to grab your styler and shape your hair into style. Did you know that ghd stands for “good hair day”? I think they are definitely on to something.

Check out this before & after with the ghd eclipse in my hair. If I want sleek hair, that’s my go-to styler.

4. Curl it

Jodie says to work with the mess of your bad hair day and add in more curls.

If you have curly hair, check out my tutorial to restyle curly hair on the second day. For straight hair, try this tutorial for soft waves.

5. Braid it

Braid are always a fix for bad hair days. I swear by them and so do Angela, Linda and Nicole.

My 3o Braids in 30 Days ebook has over 30 tutorials to solve your bad hair days. Or check my hairstyle tutorials section for more hair-spiration.

6. Wear a messy bun

Sometimes you just need to hide your bad hair day away. Crystal, Angela and Nicole say their go-to style is a messy bun.

My curly top knot tutorial is perfect for messy hair, whether your hair is straight or naturally curly.

7. Accessorise

Distract from your bad hair day with a pretty hair accessory. It’s amazing the difference a headband or clip can make in seconds.

One of my fave shops for hair accessories is ASOS because they’re inexpensive and on trend. I always have a few clips or bands ready for a bad hair day.

Bonus tips:

Lisa says to chuck a sickie and go to the hairdresser!

If only, Lisa! I wish.

Summer also says it’s all about your attitude. Sometimes you just have to roll with it. I bet your hair is not as bad as you think. Your hair just doesn’t meet your high expectations.

So what did I do?

I had time so I jumped back in the shower and washed my hair. I figured it was better to start over and set myself up for a few days of good hair. It did the trick.

What’s your best way to fix a bad hair day? Tell me your favourite tip, or tell me your secrets in the comments below.

I really want to master the art of the messy topknot. I see it on Pinterest all the time and pine for it. It looks so effortless, yet for me it’s not! I don’t know if it’s cos I have so much hair or the fact that it’s not quite curly not quite straight…What do you think, Oh Hair Goddess? x

having some texture in your hair is definitely key to the messy top knot. I also like to backcomb my ponytail a little if I don’t think it’s messy enough. Try a different technique, like splitting your ponytail in half and twisting one section around to the right and the other to the left. Kind of creating a layered bun. Or pulling your ponytail just a little through your hair elastic, then wrapping the rest of your hair around it xx

Ditto on dry shampoo! I can’t live without it. I rescued curls that were out of control (in a not-so-lovely way) the other day by twisting the front sections back into a basic braid. Quick and easy on a busy work day. 🙂 A go-to of mine is to do a bit of a pomp with the front/top using a few pins and then everything back into a messy bun. Gives some lift to my fine hair.

What would we do without dry shampoo!

I follow your blog; I have thick, curly/wavy hair myself–in the platinum/silvering tones, that is! I’m a farmer so my hair is mostly under cover (hat), but I love to braid when it’s misbehaving. When I have a chance to wear it down I love to curl it in curls with bobby pins then let it fly free, curly, and wavy!

Hi Terry! Thanks for reading Hair Romance 🙂 Love your hairstyles, and a hat is my favourite cover up for a bad hair day too 😉
