Beauty Blog School – How to write your first blog post

March 23, 2015 By Hair Romance 18 Comments

Beauty Blog School is my series for new bloggers who want to build a beautiful blog.

Beauty Blog School - how to write your first post

So you know how to start a blog but how do you write your first post? What do you write about?

Pressing publish on your first blog post is both exciting and nerve-wracking. I’ve had a few emails from bloggers who are holding off their launch because they don’t know what to write in that first post.

But here’s the thing.

Don’t stress about your launch. There’s a secret that people don’t often share but I will.

Your launch is not that important.

A launch can help you get PR as being new is newsworthy but your blog is more than one day. Your first blog post will never be your most popular post.

What is important is how you continue.

You have to be consistent and persistent to ensure your blog grows. Don’t let your first blog post nerves stop you from hitting publish.

How to write your first blog post

Choose and idea, sit down at your computer and start writing. Here are nine ideas for your first post on your blog:

  1. Why you’re blogging – tell us a story about why you’ve started your blog.
  2. How you chose your blog name – tell us how did you come up with your name?
  3. 10 things this blog is about – share what topics you will cover on your blog.
  4. 10 things this blog is not about – a funny twist on the previous idea, define your blog by what you won’t be about.
  5. Your mission statement – share your brand message behind your blog and what you stand for.
  6. 10 things you didn’t know about me – introduce yourself with 10 little known facts about you.
  7. A tutorial – skip the introductions and show how useful your blog is for your readers.
  8. A photo essay – visualise your story or take us behind the scenes with a series of photographs.
  9. A vlog – make a personal video intro to your blog for new readers.

The more you write on your blog, the easier it becomes. Don’t hesitate on pressing publish on your first blog post. It’s just the start of your blogging journey.

What did you write in your first blog post? Were you nervous pressing publish the first time?

My advice…just dive in!! Like I literally just did. I took my words and just flowed. I decided with an intro about me. Just do it!! The whole key is being yourself and when you’re yourself it just flows. Good luck to you all and I hope you will visit my beauty blog.

Great tips. I was nervous the first time I hit publish. My first post was a short piece about winter in my city. It wasn’t until the third or fourth post that I started to find what I wanted to write about. The hardest par is to start, once you get over that hurdle it becomes somewhat easier. I’ve found other bloggers so supportive and it really is like a whole new family out there in the blog world.

this post totally remind me about my situation when i was a newbie in this field. I was so scared to publish it and was really tensed about how things come out. I have started writing a little late, but have always been following famous bloggers, and after seeing their great posts, i was not sure if i’m the right person to do this. but now i know, when it is about blogging, there is no right and wrong. a person can write about what ever he/she likes. that’s how i started. Now i’m doing pretty well with my blog , still a long way too go.
Nice post. This one totally made me nostalgic.

    XOXO,
    Sarah

This is such good advice, lovely! It’s so true – chances are, hardly anyone will read your first blog post and it will certainly never be your most popular. You’ve just got to dive in… and keep swimming! x
