Beauty blog school is in session!
If you’re a blogger, or would like to be one, I’m starting a new series on how to be a beauty blogger.
If you’re not into blogging, don’t worry, my regular hair content will be back tomorrow. I post new tutorials every Tuesday.
For now, beauty blog school will be in session on Mondays.
Maybe you made a New Years resolution to start a blog, or already have one, then beauty blog school is for you. I’ll share answers to some of my frequently asked questions and show you how to set up your own blog.
Whether you blog about beauty or photography or garden gnomes, I hope you’ll find these posts helpful.
My number one blogging tip
My number one blogging tip is to just do it.
It’s the best thing I’ve ever done and it has changed my life.
Blogging is a fantastic way to define your style, exercise your creative muscle and to connect with an incredible community.
Starting a blog is easy (I’ll show you how in a step-by-step tutorial next Monday) but keeping a blog going is the tricky part.
You need to show up and just keep writing. The more you do it, the easier it will become. Don’t overthink it (like I have a tendency to do) and just start.
I’m not a big fan of homework but if you don’t have a blog yet then I have a task for you. I want you to start thinking of a name for you blog. You can go under your name, or choose something related to your blog topic.
I’ll see you back here next Monday to walk you through how to get started.
Now’s your time to ask me you blogging questions – are you unsure of how to find readers, or is managing your time a problem for you?
Hit me up with your blogging questions in the comments below.
Every year I have said to myself “I must start a blog this year” Every year I have successfully managed to never set up the blog I seem to be obsessed with setting up…….cue my complete and utter gratitude to you….
I follow your blog regularly, mostly at night in bed (in a normal not weird way) due to stupid insomnia and full time job……anyhoo……I am sooooo soooo grateful for this new blogging school. You, and you alone, have inspired me…..I owe you one. I will be the best pupil ever at your blogging school. I will do all homework assignments and you know what…,,I WILL “just do it” and for that simple piece of advice I owe you the most!
Here’s to you…..my new official ‘person I most want to say thank-you to” and hopefully this year I can invite you to follow very own blog!
you can do it Nicola! Thank you so much for commenting and for going for it! You never know where it can take you. I can’t wait to read your blog xx
I am in , Christina! Launching my new blog in March – not beauty as you might expect but DOGS! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and experience with us! xox
That is the best news I’ve heard all day Vicki!! xx
Wow, I’m super excited about this. I already have my own blog, but I’m always looking for a way to get better so I’m really interested in seeing what I can learn from you.

Thanks so much! I agree you can never stop learning, especially with something as new as blogging x
You are so nice for doing this post. How do you get more followers and how Web did you create your logo?
Thanks Courtney! Will write a detailed post about getting followers but networking online and in real life is a great start. I used a graphic designer to create my logo although I did the first version on my own in Photoshop. You can find great designers through Etsy if you’re on a budget xx
How do you make your blog public and gain readers? I’m starting a travel/lifestyle blog this year and I’m not sure how to gain enough readers to make it worthwhile…?
Oh and this series sounds perfect! Love it!
Thanks Talia! It’s a crowded space but if you have a unique angle there’s always room. Define what it is that makes your blog different to other travel/lifestyle blogs. Once you define your point of difference, you’ll also define the readers you want to reach. That helps you connect to your tribe xx
That sounds like a great idea, thanks! x
Hi there,
Love this post, and am so thankful to anyone who wants to help others during their blogging journey. I have a couple of questions for you…
I run a beauty blog called My Dainty Derriere. I post week reviews/tutorials whilst searching for the best organic or naturally based beauty products and post other bits and pieces in between these posts. My blog is starting to take off a little more now, but I’m still hitting a wall when it comes to readers interacting with me on my website. My facebook page is picking up but I really want to get people to come back to me and comment on my page as I love interacting with readers. How would you suggest I draw readers back to my blog rather than just commenting on my facebook page all of the time?
Also, did you start your blog whilst working for an employer or have you always worked full time on your blog?
Look forward to hearing from you.
Michelle x
Hi Michelle, I was working when I started blogging so I blogged late into the night for a long time. I’ve noticed over time that a lot of readers have stopped commenting on blogs and most of the conversations have moved to social. I find Instagram and Facebook to have more interaction for me than my blog too. Sometimes you just have to go where your readers are and don’t stress about it. The easiest way to get more comments is to wrote about a controversial topic or take a stand on an issue. Ask questions and you’ll be able to start a conversation in your blog comments too.
Thank you for the feedback, it’s a relief to hear that I’m not the only one getting more interest on social media!
