Big Hair Friday – Frizz is in

Happy Big Hair Friday!

This shoot is an oldie but a goodie from UK Harper’s Bazaar.

Model: Anniek Kortleve
Photography: Catherine Servel
Styling: Leith Clark
Hair: Leonardo Manetti
Make-up: Benjamin Puckey

Frizz is in for this floral shoot. If I brushed my hair out this morning, I think my hair would look like this.

And I have worn my hair out in this kind of frizzy curl. It’s a hard look to pull off when you’re not on the pages of a glossy editorial. But there are a few tips you can take away.

Frizz is inevitable. The only way to get perfect frizz-free hair is to have helmet hair. Not a good look.

But you can make frizz look stylish. To do this you have to balance your messy hair with a more polished look. You need to work with the frizz. Create a contrast with pretty clothes, structured peplums and perfect red lips.

If this shoot had super smooth hair, the overall look would be too done. The messy hair makes this modern.

So, will you embrace the frizz this weekend? If you hate frizz, what’s your secret to taming your mane?

I wish I could rock the frizzy look seeing as though the humidity here in Hong Kong is a nightmare!
I like your tip on balancing the frizz with a more polished look – maybe I will have to put more effort into my overall outfit!

Humidity plays havoc with my hair too Ainslie! It’s funny, the balance works in reverse too. You can wear something scruffy but with a sleek hairstyle. It’s the classic “model off-duty” look.

Some days I just can’t be bothered styling my hair, so I let it air dry and rock it as is. This usually creates some kind of weird straight/wavy/beachy/frizzy hybrid that I tend to do wear with a deep side flick. Looks good the first day, but then subsequently drives me nuts and ends up either being straightened or thrown up into a bun!
