Extra tips for dry shampoo

January 25, 2011 By Hair Romance 10 Comments

I previously posted some reviews for dry shampoo here but I’ve had a couple of questions about how to use it and some of you aren’t loving it.

Dry shampoo if great for straight hair with greasy roots and for creating extra body in fine hair. I use it when I’ve straightened my hair and want to get an extra day (or three) out of the style. It’s perfect for hairstyles after the gym if you’re running short on time.

Tip 1 – Only apply to your roots. Don’t spray onto your hair, just onto your hairline and part line. I sometimes also lift up my hair and spray on my scalp at the crown.

Tip 2 – Leave for a few minutes to absorb any oil on your scalp. Any white powder residue will start to disappear as it absorbs oil from your scalp.

Tip 3 – Then brush out any remaining residue. This will also help with volumising your hair.

Doubters, give it another try and let me know how you go.

I’ve only used Klorane so I can’t comment on the others. I swear by Klorane.
I like to spray it only onto my scalp and roots. I’ll often lift up my hair in sections and spray the roots. It has the added benefit of giving volume to my fine limp hair. Also because my hair is blonde, the spray lightens my roots ever so slightly.
I usually have to wash my hair EVERY day to keep the limp at bay. If I spray Klorane into my hair, I can go another three to four days without washing. Although this sounds a bit yucky, not washing & drying my hair every day equals softer and more manageable hair.
    Thumbs up to Klorane.

Glad you love dry shampoo too! It’s great for fine hair, even to add texture on clean hair.

@Courtney – Thank you! My friend was doing the same thing, I don't think the instructions are clear. Thanks for your lovely comment xx

I owe you a thankyou – I bought some dry shampoo a while back (the Tresemme one), but only really tried it once or twice and wasn't overly impressed. Thanks to your tips I actually learned how to use it and started doing so regularly – it's great! I'll have to try batiste in future too. Anyway, thanks!

Agree, Batiste is brilliant for the price and Klorane is great too.

If you have thin hair you might like to try a volumising powder for styling like Haze from Evo.

I have thin hair so even if it's clean towards the end of the day I need this – I tried batiste and loved it and I tried treseme's and it looked greasy and gross (thumbs down)
