Hair trend: Hair cuffs and metallic hair accessories

February 29, 2012 By Hair Romance 12 Comments

2012 is the year of the hair accessory, and metallic accents are everywhere in the hair.

Ever since the Dries Van Noten Fall show last year, metal hair cuffs have been on accessory must-have lists. I heard a whisper that scrunchies were coming back but don’t believe it. Sleek metallic hair accessories are where it’s at.

How to wear a hair cuff

Cuffs look fantastic on low, loose ponytails. Keep your hair textured and loose to contrast with the sleek metal cuff.

Keep your cuff in proportion to your hair length, choose narrow cuffs on shorter hair and wide cuffs for long hair.

You can experiment with a high ponytail but watch out you don’t end up looking like I dream of Jeannie.

Twist your ponytail to slide your cuff up. You may need to use an elastic to secure your hair and hold the cuff in place.

DIY hair cuffs

If you’re feeling crafty try these DIY versions (and thanks to Oh The Lovely Things for the links):

Re-purpose plumbing pipe with Glitter & Pearls to get the look

Love this napkin ring style from 5 inch and up (and it’s kinder to your hair)

Clearly in love with this transparent hair cuff by Love Aesthetics

Depending on the thickness of your hair, you could also try wearing a large cocktail ring in your hair.

Just like at Dries, try Eves gold plates cuffs

Love these two cuffs by Free People – Cut out ponytail cuff – Stingray ponytail cuff

Or try these Tica skull cuffs

I’m like a magpie to this shiny trend, I love it. Will you add some metallic accessories to your hair?
