How often do you change your hair?
Not as often as Rihanna, but according to a recent survey, one in six women change their hair up to four times a year.
Conversely the majority of men only change their hairstyle three times in their adult life! 37% of men reckon David Beckham has great hair but only 2% said they changed their hair as often as Becks.
45% of women were inspired by a celebrity to change their hair and 32% wanted to get rid of bad hair days. Other reasons for a new do were changing fashions (42%), needing a change (26%) and going grey (16%).
I used to change my hair all the time, just because I could. I’ve had a similar hairstyle and colour for a while now and maybe it’s time for a change…
Do you get a stye refresh every time you go to the salon? Or do you have a signature hairstyle?
Akta says
I dont really change my hair style. i just get a trim and freshen up the layers. I like to keep my length. I havent got a trim in Six months. I got split ends trying to use oil to ends. How can you get rid of split ends without cutting hair.
Hair Romance says
Hi Akta, unfortunately there’s no cure for split ends. Scissors are the only solution x

Oh god, well last year I changed my hair so often that a friend of mine joked that she never knew what to look for in a crowd! I went through a phase where I was making drastic changes every 3 weeks or so! I’ve completely settled down now though, my red hair was suffering so badly from all the crazy bleaching, so I’m letting it grow out… I’m finding it really hard to resist the urge to change at the moment though!
Hair Romance says
I think I lived vicariously through your hair changes last year! You had some awesome styles. I think I’m getting bored with my blonde now…

I have rather fine hair that rarely grows much past my shoulders. So I have had different variations of “short bob-ish” hair for about 10 years now. I love a good colour change though, and often go from natural browns to a really dark base with bright coloured streaks.
I just found out Ive got a new job to start in a few weeks, so Im thinking another change is in order to celebrate!
Hair Romance says
Congrats on the new job! A great excuse for a new ‘do xx

I used to chop and change my hair all the time when it was super short – if I didn’t like a colour or the cut was wrong for me, it was only a month before I could change it all over again. Now that I’ve grown it out I was super careful with it and never did anything exciting, but I’ve started to change it up all the time now. I love my signature undercut, but it won’t be long before I’m back into mohawk territory!
Hair Romance says
I love seeing what you do with your hair next! You’re right, you do feel more protective of long hair as you’ve invested so much time in growing it. I think I’m almost ready to chop again…
Konstanze says
I’m pretty lazy when it comes to my hairstyle; I only go to the hairdresser’s about twice every year during semester break. I did have my hair pretty short until about two and a half years ago, then I decided to grow it out because I wanted to be able to have awesome hair-dos. (Your blog is a huge inspiration for that, incidentally.) But I guess at some point I’ll feel the need for a change and then I’m going to cut them short again!
Hair Romance says
Thanks so much Konstanze! My hair is normally in a similar cycle to you, my grow out phase has jus been going on for ages. I think that’s why I love Short Cut Saturday as I’m dreaming about my next short cut x
Jen says
I change my hair up every visit, though not all that drastically. My hair is really short anyways but I change the angles and layers and colors all the time. I think I’m still looking for my “signature style”
Hair Romance says
Me too! Or I think I get bored too easily and can’t stick to one look 😉
Kimberley says
Really I never change my hair style. Apart from a slight variation in length and every 4 years or so thinking I’d like a fringe and then realising it doesn’t suit my hair and growing it out again. The only real change has been my hair colour. Gradually gone from dark to light but that’s because it choose to go grey with out consulting me first. Luckily you inspire me with different hairstyles, they’re my only changes.
Hair Romance says
Thanks Kimberley! That’s the fun things with hair, even with the same hair cut you can wear it so many different ways. Especially with your amazing hair!

last year i change my hair like four time, or maybe five, this years it have been two, from a bob to my first pixie 🙂 i like to change, i get bored to easy, i think i’m going to let grow, and i really hope my curls make a comeback, and i try to stay with my natural color, black
i love you blog is a great inspiration and it help a lot !
Hair Romance says
Thanks so much Camilla! I feel so boring as I’ve had the same style for ages now. Time for a change I think… xx

I love how much gusto Rihanna has with her hair choices 🙂
I have changed my hair a number of times in the last 10 years…
while I dabbled with hair colour in my early 20’s, I’ve submitted to the natural colour and gone wild with cuts and textures… mohawk was by far the most fun and fearless 1.5 years ago, however the growing process has not been as fun.
my husband and I are each other’s hair dressers, so any time He or I want to change something, we trust our heads in each other’s hands.
I am wanting to try an Ombre look when my hair is at shoulder length (currently dangling a little past the chin) but as I have not coloured my hair in 10 years, I have yet to find a colourist on recommendation.. any tips?
E x
Hair Romance says
Wow I love that you and your husband are each other’s hairdressers! That’s a hair romance! Are you in Sydney? I go to Stevie English Hair in Bondi (they’re also in Glebe) and they do amazing colour xx
Eva Morabito says
I am in Sydney 🙂
I have Stevie English Hair saved at the top of my list and have since I started reading your blog :).. when I feel the need to take the plunge, I might head there (considering hubby is a little nervous about advancing his skills to colouring, ha!)
ps: you wrote “I used to change my hair all the time, just because I could”… why can’t you now? are their social conventions or employment that prevents it?
Hair Romance says
I’m not sure why Eva. Though I did have three versions of pink hair last year which was fun! I thought I would change my hair more often writing a hair blog, but the consistency of a similar style makes it easier to shoot 5 tutorials at once and then post them at any time. When I change my hair you’ll notice a timeline of when the photos were taken 😉
