You can roll out of bed and roll out of the door in only 2 minutes with this easy chic rolled updo.
The only trick to this hairstyle is finding a headband that fits your head comfortably. Look for a headband that has an elasticated section with wide elastic. This is a good option, or I love this one too.
You could even DIY your own headband that would be a perfect fit. I’ve had this leather headband since the Christopher Kane show at London Fashion Week thanks to TIGI. I like the mix of leather with this pretty rolled updo.
This rolled updo also has a vintage feel, don’t you think? Similar to the Gibson roll hairstyle, the headband makes it even easier to style. You could make this hairstyle work for a 1920s look, or even a 1950s style. I’d love to see this on a bride or bridesmaids with flowers pinned above the roll.
How to do a chic rolled updo – Hairstyle Tutorial
Step-by-step
For this style you’ll need an elasticated headband that will sit firmly around your head and a couple of bobby pins.
- Brush all your hair back and decide where you want to part your hair. This style works well with a centre part or side part.
- Place your headband over your hair. Push it down so that it sits low around your head, below the occipital bone (that’s the bone that curves in at the back of your head).
- Tuck your hair around the headband. Take 1-2 inch sections of hair, starting near your ear, and curve them around. Tuck the ends of your hair underneath the headband and keep tucking your hair in until it forms a roll.
- Finish tucking in your hair at the back. Work from each ear back and finish the roll by tucking in the last section at the back of your head. This helps to create a more uniform and even roll.
- You can use some bobby pins to keep the style in place. Leave your bangs or front layers loose or you can pin then back into the roll too.
Styling tip
My headband is a good fit so I haven’t needed to pin it, but if your headband keeps slipping you can use a couple of bobby pins to keep in in place.
Place the headband around your head and pin a bobby pin across the band behind your ears to stop it from moving. You can also add an extra pin through your hair to hold it in place.

Hi Nessie, you could do this in shoulder length hair. You don’t need a lot of length to make this work. If you have short layers, some hairspray and a few extra bobby pins will fix it x
How do you place the headband without the crown of your hair getting all poofy? Every time I try this look, my hair under the headband gets all poofy and disorganized looking.

Hi! I notice that you straighten your hair a lot in your tutorials. But I know on most curly hair people when they straighten it the end turn out fluffy… like the ends of broomsticks!! Do you know how to help that?

I love this look, however i cant get the bandeau to stay put it keeps sliding off. I have tried fully elastic ones, cloth ones. Is there a trick that i am missing?
Hi Jan, it can be tricky to get the right headband. Mine is a mix of fabric and elastic so the top doesn’t stretch but the back does. You do need some elastic to have enough movement to tuck the hair in. You could try pinning the top of your bandeau in place first before tucking in your hair x

Thanks Marie! Wow your hair is really long! I haven’t tried this yet on longer hair but I have an idea about how it could work. Split your hair into 5 or 6 sections and braid them. Start the braids low, below your shoulder and secure the ends with elastics. Then put the headband on and tuck the braids inside. You’d still have enough loose hair to give the same look, but the braids will be easier to roll and tuck inside. Give it a try and let me know how you go xx

Love this, I usually roll my hair up and clip it with little flower clips, but this would produce a neater look. Need a hairband now! Also, your bracelets are lovely! Where are they from??
