Night time hair routine – Tips on how to sleep with curly hair

August 11, 2016 By Hair Romance 10 Comments

Hair Romance - Night time routine for curly hair

Today’s hair video is my night time hair routine. I’m always asked how to sleep with curly hair and I’m sharing some tips and tricks that work for my curls.

I’ve been following this routine for a few years now and it works really well for me. I can usually get 2-3 days of good curls that I can wear out before I braid my hair.

As you know, no two curls are the same so I hope these tips will work for you, or you may need to adapt them to suit your curls.

My night time hair routine really depends on this clip. It’s the best. I have been trying to find an alternative for the US or UK but unfortunately I haven’t found anything like it. I’d recommend checking your local store or beauty supply to find a clip with a flat base. It’s so much more comfortable.

I’d love to know your tricks for sleeping with curly hair. Leave me a comment below with your tips!

Hi, I bought it from Priceline but you can find similar clips at most beauty or department stores xx

I think I have found a silicone lined clip in boots or I might have bought it in sainsburys so UK people can try it out.

I have the problem that my hair is too fine and it will get loose within 5 minutes. I can only use hair bands to do stuff like a pony tail/plaits or a bun with hair pins. (Not Kirby grips the open kind.) For ballet as I do that.

Hi Kristy, another idea I had that could work for your hair is to use the smaller butterfly clips. You could do a top knot or smaller twists and clip them up with the mini butterfly clips. Good luck! x

Thank you for the tips! I love that you say that we are more critical of our own curls! That is so true! Even when I am thinking they are looking frizzy and terrible, I still get people saying they love my curls!

Thanks lovely! It’s funny how we’re so much more aware of things than others are, and our expectations for ourselves are so much higher. We need to be a bit kinder to ourselves, and our curls xx

Thanks for this very nice Video 🙂

Do you also have advise for Girls with shorter hair?
My hair has Bob length so clipping it up like you showed won’t work for me…

Thanks Maddie! I recommend doing a few twists to try and keep your curls in shape while you sleep. Use some smaller butterfly clips and do 5-10 twist to keep your curls together. It many take a bit of experimentation to get the right twists for your curls. Good luck! x
