Short Cut Saturday – Prom hairstyles for short hair

November 19, 2011 By Hair Romance 2 Comments

How do you style short hair for a formal event or school prom?

Today’s question comes courtesy of a very sweet dad. He’s a friend of mine that I used to work with. We caught up last weekend and were talking about hair (I may have been dominating the conversation – again!) but he asked me what are some good hairstyles for short hair, as his daughter has her school formal coming up.

Isn’t that sweet? So Dad, here are some tips so you can help your daughter with her hair.

For a prom or any formal event, red carpets are a great place to look for inspiration. I’ve selected a few celebrity hairstyles that work in pixie short or bob hairstyles.

1. To get Ginnifer’s look

This look is all about creating a soft modern textures. Don’t be too fussy, and use your fingertips to create a messy do with a styling powder such as Osis Dust It.

2. To get Carey’s look

Keep it sleek and smooth. Use straightening irons on your hair (Cloud Nine mini irons are perfect for short hair) and use a serum such as Goldwell StyleSign Melting Diamonds serum.

3. To get Jessica’s look

Who says you can’t have 70s flicks in short hair? Use a volumising spray or mousse and blowdry your hair with a round brush. Blowdry all the ends under. Create a deep side part, and blowdry your fringe arounds a round brush to create the flicks. Smooth with a serum and use a hairspray to keep your style all night.

4. To get Michelle’s look

Take inspiration from the 1920s with soft finger waves. Apply a mousse and blowdry your hair at the back but leave the front of your hair about 50% wet. Create a deep side part and shape the curls around your face. Use flat pins to shapes the curls and leave in place until they dry.  Spray with hairspray, remove the clips and gently brush into shape.

Which is your favourite look?
