Talking hair with Elle Ferguson of Theyallhateus

Want to know the secret to perfect Bondi Beach waves? Elle Ferguson spills on her hair secrets.

While working on the shoot for Australia’s Most Beautiful Hair, I got to hang out with the fab Tash & Elle from Theyallhateus. These star bloggers have great style and enviable hair.

I’ll have Tash’s hair secrets next week but today is all about Elle’s signature look, beach waves.

Second day hair is best.

Elle says she washes her hair every second day but it’s second day hair that gives the best waves. You need a bit of grit in your hair, especially if your hair doesn’t hold a curl very well.

I can’t live without hair powder.

Styling powder is the secret to the volume and texture in Elle’s hair. She loves this one and says she can’t live without it. It’s always in her handbag.

I’m a creature of habit.

Elle is known for her signature blonde waves. She doesn’t change her hair colour or style often and this helps to keep her hair in good condition. The pink hair here was just temporary for the Australia’s Most Beautiful Hair shoot! Elle said she cut her hair short once and wanted to die. It’s long hair for ever for Elle.

You have to brush your curls out.

She styles her hair with a large barrel curling wand to get her signature beach waves but the trick is to brush your curls out. You must break up your hair after curling it to create a more natural looking wave, says Elle. The styling powder helps mess it up just the right amount.

And the most unexpected hair secret?

Elle’s favourite hairspray is a supermarket special. She’s been using this one  for years and loves that you can brush it out and it won’t leave your hair like a helmet.

So if this weekend you want to copy Elle’s hair, remember “the saltier the better” for authentic beach hair.

Do you have a signature style like Elle  or do you like to mix it up?

I love Elle’s hair – relaxed beachy waves is always my hair goal when I get out of bed in the morning (even though it’s rarely achieved). Thank you for linking to all her styling products – I’ll be grabbing these! I remember when I cut my hair short and I also wanted to die – in fact, it’s happened a couple of times (you’d think I’d learn from my mistakes, huh) so now firmly a long hair girl and eagerly waiting for it to grow back! x

I do love a relaxed beachy wave. It’s so effortless and beautiful. My hair colour tends to flit between more brown than blonde and more blonde than brown – depending on the season and my mood. I too am a long hair girl. x
