The prettiest braided twist you’ll want to try

October 20, 2015 By Hair Romance 2 Comments

This loop waterfall braid tutorial is the prettiest braided twist and you’ll want to try it straight away.

Hair Romance - Loop waterfall braid tutorial

I was inspired by instagram and some braids I had seen by Cute Girls Hairstyles and Missy Sue for today’s tutorial. My version is a little simpler because there are only 5 sections to this braid. That also makes it quicker to do!

This braid tutorial is based on a waterfall braid but it includes the waterfall sections back into the braid. These loops add an extra detail to this half up braid and look so pretty. I think this will be a new favourite of mine.

What you need:

  • Small clear hair elastic
  • Mirror ( you need to see which sections to pick up)

Step-by-step tutorial:

  1. Begin by brushing your hair to remove any knots. I parted my hair to the side for this style though you could also do a middle part if you prefer.
  2. Take a section at the front of your hair by your part and split it into three.
  3. Start your waterfall braid on the right. If we number the sections 1,2,3 making the top right section 1. Cross 1 over 2, then 3 over 1. Then 2 over 3.
  4. Add in hair from the top. Pick up a section of hair from the top of your head and add it to section 2.
  5. Drop out the first section. Instead of using section 1 to cross over 2, drop out 1 and pick up a small section of hair behind it to create a new section 1. This crosses over 2 and continues the braid.
  6. Continue the waterfall braid for one more section as per steps 3-5.
  7. Create the loop section. On your next waterfall section, continue as per steps 3-5, but also pick up the dropped section 1 from the first waterfall section and include it in the braid.
  8. Finish with the final 2 sections. The next two waterfall sections are the same as step 7, where you add in the dropped sections from waterfall drops two and three. This will give you a braid with 3 loops.
  9. Secure the end of your braid with an elastic.
  10. Gently stretch out the loops. Emphasise the shape of the loops by gently loosening these sections.

Styling tips

  • If your hair is too clean, this braid will have trouble holding in your hair. It’s best to do this style a day after washing your hair. Alternatively add in some texture with dry shampoo or use a light pomade to define your hair for this braid.
  • If you have curly hair – depending on your curls, you may not see the detail in this braid. You can try a simpler style like this curly half-up braid tutorial.
  • Keep practising – I needed to use a mirror to make sure I was picking up the right sections to do this style. I recommend practising when you’re relaxed and not rushing out the door so you can learn it properly. Then once you’ve got it down you’ll be able to do it quickly anytime you need to.
