What should I do next with my hair?

May 8, 2013 By Hair Romance 32 Comments

Hair Romance - the last of my blonde hair

My hair is getting quite long now, isn’t it? I took this photo last week after getting my hair done at Stevie English Hair.

I love the colour and Stevie and the team have done a great job keeping my hair in good condition despite the heat styling and stresses I put my locks through. (I had a great in salon treatment that I’ll post about soon.)

But as much as I love this colour, I feel like it’s time for a change. Hair is supposed to fun, right?

I had intended to make a change at this last appointment but I chickened out. I’ve developed a bit of an emotional attachment to my hair and I was nervous about changing my hair. Now, if you love your hair, you shouldn’t change it just because, but it’s not like me to keep the same style for so long.

So I decided in the chair that I wasn’t going to chicken out of making a change at my next appointment.

I’m booked in for Friday 7th June and I’m not coming out with the same colour.

The only question is, what should I do next with my hair?

Tell me, what colour do you think I should try next?

I know it’s hard to describe hairstyles in words, so please link to a pinterest pin or an image in the comments if you can x

I am obsessed with red too!! I have swapped between red & blonde for the last few years & although I am currently blonde, I don’t love it & desperately want to go ginger but everyone is telling me not to change a few months out from my wedding.. So as soon as it’s over – I’m going red.. I love these colours.

I have very strange hair that gets curlier the longer it gets. If I were to cut it as short as the Marion Cotillard, it would cut the curls off although my pattern is very similar to yours. Is your hair thick? In the above picture with it straightened, it looks thick and very similar to mine. Mine is terribly thick and I’m trying to decide if I should get more layers cut into it or have it thinned a bit but I always hear that curlies should not thin their hair or cut too many layers. But I desperately need some relief and at the same time, can’t go too short on the layers or I’ll lose my curl! Augh….what to do, what to do!!!???!!! I just keep thinking that if I let it grow longer, the weight will help me manage the thickness. Your hair is gorgeous…any thoughts?

Hi Amy, it’s hard to comment without seeing your hair, but I usually find that long layers suits curly hair. If your hair is really thick, I would caution against a bob as it can sit quite wide and your don’t want to get that triangle shape! Chat to your hairdresser to see if long layers will work in your hair x

I LOVE your hair colour, Christina. Your highlights are just perfect. But you if you feel like a change I think you’d look stunning with an auburn ‘do. I think I remember seeing Kirsten Dunst with red locks when she was filming Spiderman and it would suit you too! Fi xx

Thanks Fi! I think auburn-y tones might be the way to go. I don’t dislike my hair, just feel like it’s been the same for ages and it’s time for a new look xx

Yep. I know you’ve already heard this a million times already, but red would be so awesome on you. You should totally go for it: ginger, copper, or red…Especially with your curls. <3

I’m looking forward to seeing the results if you decide to go with red! I’ve spent the last week or so thinking that I should dye my hair Florence Welch red, but I’m terrified of making such a big change– I’ve never so much as highlighted my hair before.

Thanks Rachel! it’s a massive change going from blonde to dark red. You need to change your makeup and wardrobe too. Your natural colour is gorgeous, though red would suit you I wouldn’t change your hair x

Because June 7th is my birthday, I think you should go BRIGHT PINK! But that may also just be because I’m missing having colourful hair like crazy.

Have you ever had ginger hair? My dream hair is actually a curly ginger/ red. Kind of Christina Hendricks/ Debra Messing / Julianne Moore mix.

I say go red, too! Of course, you know I love red. 🙂 I’m not much for changing my cut and color, but love to try different hairstyles. That is why having such long hair can be fun. I am growing out my fringe after having bangs for 15 years, so I guess that is one new thing for me. I have donated my hair a few times, but I still just get a straight plain cut when I have done that. I guess I am not adventurous at all when it comes to my cuts.

I can really picture you with a very coppery red.
I don’t know why as it is such a bold choice from blonde. Yes, even when you had the pink and orange pieces.

What are YOU thinking you will do?

I’m thinking a red too. Maybe a copper or just dip my toe in with a strawberry blonde. I’m hoping to get a few ideas, but I’ll let my hairdresser make the final call x

Not sure if you are keen on red, but I re-watched one of my favourite movies, Practical Magic on the weekend and Nicole Kidman’s exquisite red locks are to die for! x

I love your hair how it is, maybe you could go a little bit darker. As long as we can still make out the details in your photos of hairstyles. I look forward to seeing it whatever you do.

Hi! Your hair (curl pattern, thickness, etc.) is probably the most similar to mine, that I’ve ever come across. My current haircut is almost identical to the one you have as your profile pic (layered, piecey curls), but one of my favourite haircuts was when I had it so the front had longish bits (tendrils coming down past chin), but the back and top was heaps shorter. A bit fro-ish, lots of volume, although my curls aren’t the kinky kind. The curls looked amazing and styling was so easy. Every day I had people commenting telling me how great it looked and asked who my hairdresser was. Only down side was, like with any short haircut, you can’t do alot with it (although you probably could – I’m not that clever 🙂
Similar to this pic of Marion Cotillard..

Oh I love that cut Nicole! One of my all time favourite hairstyles was similar to this too. It’s just so easy to wear. I think I’m going to stay a little longer for now (so I can keep doing more tutorials) but I definitely want to go back to that cut. Oh and I love Marion Cotillard too!

It was so lovely meeting you Monday night. You are so clever and creative with your hair. I’ve given up on mine – just far too fine. I always wanted thick hair that holds a style and offers endless styling opportunities. Looking forward to seeing the new you in June! xx
