How will you be wearing your hair in 2012?
The uneven cut is the first short hair trend for 2012 and the next Short Cut Saturdays will be predicting more short hair trends to try in 2012.
Not since the 90s has short hair been such a mainstream trend, but what if you want to keep your hair long?
Here are some ways to update your hairstyle for 2012.
Braids Braid Braids
The 2011 trend for braids is really hitting its stride in 2012. There will be more variations than we’ve ever seen before.
You’ll want to grow your hair (or try clip in extensions) to achieve these beautiful braided upstyles.
I have the BIGGEST hairstyle challenge ever for 2012 coming up. If you loved last year’s 30 Hairstyles in 30 Days you won’t want to miss the 2012 Hair Romance Hairstyle Challenge…
Shiny hair
I predicted this at NYFW and it’s a trend that will divide the crowd. Like body con dresses and the no pants look, you probably need to be under a certain age to try this wet look hair, or you risk looking like you slept in and forgot to wash your hair.
Teamed with a deep part (another hot trend) this shiny hair will be hot on the party scene in summer.
Textured Waves
I’ve been waiting my whole life for curls to be in fashion, and 2012’s curly hair trends are simply beautiful. More of a controlled version of my wild curls, these textured waves and soft full curls will make you forget your flat iron. Unless you’re using it to make waves.
Perms
A controversial one here, but I predict rather than chemically straightening, girls will be chemically curling their hair. If Jamie Beck is still rocking a perm this good, I see perms taking over.
I would love to explore this trend in another post fully, as I do have some experience with perm rods. Crazy as it may sound, the perm is back ladies.
2012 – the Year of the Accessory
2012 is the year of the hair accessory. Embellishments are everywhere on the runway to the red carpet. I love them as they are the easiest way to pretty up a hairstyle with the least effort. I may even have some hair accessory DIYs this year!
Other trends to watch…
1960s influenced half up hairstyles and deep parts, and I’ll share some tutorials on these soon.
What’s your favourite long hair trend for 2012?

I want tight perms for my hairs, is it INN for 2012?

Don’t worry about what’s in, if you like a hairstyle you should go for it. These trend posts are to inspire you to try something new, not limit you x

I have to say that I ADORE the braids as well- everyone seems to agree 🙂 But I will never in my life do the wet hair look. Not like that… it literally is greasy hair. Sounds like a high-fashion so-and-so woke up late one day and pressured the media to make her greasy hair in-style so she wouldn’t be shunned by the fashion world haha. Ick.

Lol! Got to love a trend that covers up laziness!

Great post! Long hair trends look gorgeous (except maybe for shiny hairstyles) I think I’ll take your advice (remember darl? long hair V ultra short bang)
I tried to search for a textured waves tutorial on your site. Would love your guidance on that! (my own attempts are not very successful)

Definitely, I’ll give you some tips and I’ll post about it soon too x

I’ve always wished I could have beautiful long thick flowing hair. but i just can’t pull it off, for one my hair won’t ever get that long before it starts breaking and looking really unhealthy and also i just don’t have the face or body shape to look good in long hair. i have a skinny face and i’m curvy in the hips so if i have long hair it draws my face down to look longer and it weighs my hair down so it has no volume to balance out the fact that i’m bigger in the bottom =( so i just stick with short hair and layer it so i can fake the volume. I would really like to get a perm, i love the look of curls but my hair won’t hold them if i use an iron, but i’m scared that with my hair the length it is (just above my shoulders) that i’ll end up looking like a poodle =(
Hair Romance says
Hi Jen, the grass is always greener isn’t it? I can’t grow my hair that long either. I just fake it with clip in extensions. As for perms, you do need to be careful how it’s done, but I’ll have all the deets in my report next week x
Jenn says
I would really love to have a long curly bob, but hairdressers have once told me my hair were too long (they wanted to cut it under my shoulder, I have them next to the waist) and once that they were too thin. This is maybe one of the big problems, they never said your hair is too thin for straightening, but there’s often this problem for perms. (hope my english is understandable 😉 )
Hair Romance says
Hi Jenn! I would love waist length hair, like a mermaid! You can always pin it up into a fake bob x
Kristin says
I have to ask you a question…So I absolutely LOVE curls (yours are so pretty!)! I have spent many times in my bathroom curling my hair with an iron. However, it takes a very long time for me (1-1 1/2 hours) to curl my hair because it is long (right above my waist), pretty thick, and has a few layers. It has a little bit of natural wave that sometimes shows up, but it is not very uniform. So, I was wondering if I could either 1) get a perm (like the second picture, not any small ringlets) or 2) somehow make my hair really wavy or curly without the perm. I don’t know if this is even possible, but I would LOVE any feedback you have!
Hair Romance says
Hi Kristin!
I would love long straight hair like yours!
I’ll be writing more about perms soon, but a great trick for curling your hair from Maegan is to sleep with your hair in buns to make curls the next day like this – http://www.lovemaegan.com/2011/09/revisiting-no-heat-big-curls-w-twisted.html
My mum always told me eating bread crusts makes your hair curly but I don’t think it’s proven.

I love all of these trends – not a fan of short hair really, so anything that’s long, wavy and romantic gets my vote! I would love if you would do a more in depth post on perms, I have extremely fine but super thick hair that’s poker straight – it’s my life’s mission to get some texture and curl in it!
Hair Romance says
Sure Clare! I’m researching it at the moment and will report back x
Jessica says
I’ve been growing out my hair just to use braids and lovely waves. But, I’m not so thrilled with the shiny/wet hair look. I think it just looks greasy. Definitely not my favorite look.
Hair Romance says
Thanks Jessica, I love braids too. The wet look is a divisive trend for sure. I think it requires youth and beauty or else you could look lazy and a bit dirty.
Brooke says
Lately my long blonde locks have been enjoying textured waves and curls, but I like to dress them up with a well-placed braid every so often. Very practical for the harsh Canadian winter. Glad to see I’ll be so trendy!
Hair Romance says
Definitely Brooke! Plus it’s a great look to keep your hair up in summer too
Meli says
I am STILL loving the braids. If I could only do more than just the rope braid!!! ugh…it’s killing me. Also love the wavey look….it’s time for a trim, but I am keeping it long and strong! Get inspiration. Thanks! As always…
Hair Romance says
Thanks Meli! Braids are one of my favourite trends, I find it’s just practice makes perfect when it comes to braiding your own hair (or get someone else to do it!)
Stacy says
I love braids! I am trying to grow out my bangs/fringe and am using braids to disguise them (as you can see here: http://stacyck.com/?p=496). I’m not sure to what extent I will be growing them out…we shall see. No one has commented on my new hairstyle with throwing my bangs back, so I’m not sure if that is good or bad???? 😉
Love the round up. Makes me glad for my long hair. I love the gold thingy on the bun – very cool!
Hair Romance says
Gorgeous photos Stacy! I like the braided bangs on you x
Andrea says
Love this round up. Can’t wait for your hair challenge.
Hey, do you know where I could get one of those gold bun accessories? Divine!

Thanks! Aren’t they divine? They were on the YSL catwalk so not sure if they’ve been copied yet but will look around.
