UPDATE: The 30 Buns in 30 Days eBook is here and it’s a bestseller!
You don’t need to have a lot of hair to have a big bun.

I’m using my bun secret weapon in Day 5 of my 30 Buns in 30 Days Hairstyle Challenge.

Inside my bun there’s a little trick I like to call a hair donut. It’s also known as a sock bun as you can roll up an old sock to create a donut shape padding to put inside your bun.

Check my tutorial for how to style a giant top knot when you don’t have a lot of hair.

Wearing this bun low at the nape of your neck with a a centre part creates a sleek, elegant hairstyle. Add some fabulous earrings and you can wear this bun from day to night.

I’ve just recently bought a hair donut (there was no sock around 🙂 ) and wore it as a high bun yesterday to my ballet class which made me feel quite ballerinesque 😀 I’ll definitely try this one though, it looks lovely and sooo elegant. I’m having problems getting my rather short hair into the bun by teasing and pinning them, so I usually tuck the tips in at first and then roll it in (like here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIxzChPsE_0 from 2:02 – it’s in German though 😀 )

Thanks Stella! That technique is great and creates a really secure bun, perfect for ballet class! I think it works best in longer hair as I have trouble covering the donut with my hair when I roll it that way. That makes me want to do a ballet class now 🙂
