Happy Big Hair Friday!

I first spied this shoot on Nicolas Jurnjack’s instagram (which you should follow for amazing hair inspiration) and tracked down the rest of this old editorial from Vogue China. This shoot is called ‘Young Romance’ which is so fitting, don’t you think?

Model: Xiao Wen Ju
Photography: Greg Kadel
Styling: Bobette Cohn
Clothes: Nina Ricci, Marni, Gucci and Chloe
Hair stylist: Nicolas Jurnjack
Makeup: Mariel Barrera

I love that floaty, airy texture he’s created in her hair.

Nicolas was influenced by hairstyles Richard Avedon had shot in the 70s with a wide profile and less volume on top. To make it modern, they softened the look as if she “just brushed her hair at home after a cocktail party to loosen it for comfort”.

How to get the look:

To achieve this, Nicolas used a Babyliss medium sized curling iron to curl Xiao Wen Ju’s hair. Then once it had cooled down, he said he brushed the whole length to open the texture and flattened the top toward the back with a bit of hairspray. To finish, Nicolas added just a touch of L’Oreal professional serum to bring some softness to the style. He said 2-3 drops maximum so don’t add too much serum, even with this much big hair.

Have fun with your big hair this weekend! xx
