One of my most frequently asked questions is “how should I wear my hair to go to my friend’s wedding?”
Attending a wedding can be an expensive. There can be travel costs. Or maybe pre-wedding parties too. You buy the couple a gift and you often buy a new dress, shoes and bag. Add in hair and makeup too and it becomes a costly day.
But what if the wedding is on a Sunday, or at a destination where you can’t get to a salon? Your only choice is to DIY.
For the bridal party, I have a specialist DIY bridal beauty guide, but as a guest you still need to plan ahead.
I usually say to check out my hairstyle tutorials page but this can be overwhelming.
To narrow it down and make it easier for you to choose a style, here are my top five hairstyle tutorials for wedding guests. Click the links to go straight to the tutorial for each hairstyle.
1. Half-crown braid
This simple half crown braid hairstyle tutorial is great for adding a little detail but still leaving your hair out.
2. The curved bun
This curved bun hairstyle tutorial if simple and so easy to do. The curve is a little twist on a classic that makes it wedding appropriate.
3. Chic rolled updo
This style is way easier to do than it looks. This chic rolled updo hairstyle tutorial will stay up all day.
4. Side Swept braids
I like to call this the compromise hairstyle. This side swept braids hairstyle tutorial is one I wore to a friend’s wedding. It was too hot to have all my hair out, and this style was the best of both worlds.
5. Double braid bun
This double braid bun updo hairstyle tutorial is an elegant look for an evening wedding.
Bonus Hairstyle
I had to include this more formal braided updo hairstyle tutorial because I just love it. If you have a formal wedding to go to, try this gorgeous updo.
Have you been to lots of weddings? How do you like to style your hair?

I love these ideas, but do you have any suggestions for if you’re wearing a hat or fascinator? Obviously you tend to take a hat off after the ceremony and then I’m left with terrible hat hair for the reception!
Hair Romance says
If your hair is back in an updo, you shouldn’t have a problem with hat hair later. If your hair is out, I recommend switching your part over so when you remove your hat you flick you hair back into place – no hat hair guaranteed!
