Last week I went to lunch with Diane Von Furstenberg. It was an intimate affair, just me, Diane and around 600 other women. Maybe a few men in the room too.
Diane is a self-confessed adventuress. She shared stories from her career that really inspired me. Plus her hair was huge. Like really big, and she kept languidly running her fingers through her hair and making sure it was still voluminous at the back. It seems strange that I found this inspiring, but I did. For so long I felt hair had to be neat and contained for business, but letting it run wild and embracing your feminity can be an advantage.
I’ve long admired DVF. She is an icon in fashion and in business.

DVF – Palazzo Collection
Diane was in Sydney to show her SS 13 ‘Palazzo’ collection. Inspired by her jet set lifestyle as a young princess, visiting places such as Rome, Marrakesh and Jaipur, the collection features embellishments, flowing kaftans and colour-block mini-dresses.
The hair
Jon Pulitano directed the hair for Redken. “Summer hair is all about movement and texture, soft sexy hair that swings. For the last couple of seasons, the runway hair styles have embraced graphic lines and bobs, but this season it’s about layering more than you ever have to reveal the hair’s natural texture and movement.” John mused. Below John shares how he created this look.
How to get the look
- Apply Redken Rootful 06 root lifting spray throughout dry hair then blow dry it in by either throwing your head forward and blow drying upside down or by just blowing the hair in circular motions until the hair is dry and full of texture.
- Using a medium curling iron, take random sections and curl the hair around the iron leaving the ends straight. Also vary where you begin the curl and leave some sections throughout uncurled to create a multi-textured effect.
- Once complete, spray the entire hair with Redken Powder Refresh 01 aerosol hair powder/dry shampoo then brush the hair through and shake it out running your fingers through it.
- Finish with Redken Fashion Work 12 versatile working spray.
Some wise words from Diane:
“The worst things you can do is to try and be someone else.”
“I like to have ideas and to make them happen.”
“I am inspired by women. I have never met a woman who is not strong.”
hope you have an inspiring weekend x
