Braids for short hair

December 3, 2011 By Hair Romance 14 Comments

Braids are one of the most popular searches on Hair Romance, but they’re not only for long hair.

I’ve found some cute examples of braids for short hair styles that are easy styles to steal.

Carey Mulligan: How to get the look

  1. Take a small section at the front of your hair and plait, secure the end with a bobby pin. (Carey’s hair is in a fishtail braid, but a regular plait works just as well)
  2. Take another small section from underneath the first and do a second plait, secure the end with a bobby pin.
  3. Hide the ends of the plaits under your hair and keep it messy for a relaxed look.

Product tips:

Dry shampoo and styling powders such as Osis Dust It are great for creating texture

Love this simple braid that Dannii Minogue is sporting. Braiding along your hairline is great for when you’re growing out your fringe (bangs) too.

Can’t braid your hair?

If you’re still struggling to get the hang of plaiting and braiding your own hair, just twist it! Use bobby pins the same colour as your hair and just twist instead of plaiting, pin in place and you’ll be styled in under a minute.

Love to see this in your hair! Let me know how you go.

I really love Carey’s pixie cut!!This length is perfect and adorable~
I am having a sleek bob right now~and I want to cut my hair~
I am considering cutting my hair like Carey in this photo~
but I’m not sure whether I can carry it well~
I’m afraid it would be hard to maintain a stylish style like her~
    >////< could you give me some advice about pixie cut?(I'm an asian with black hair, having a sleek bob right now)

Hi Cadence, very short hair does need more regular haircuts (every 4-5 weeks) so if you can afford to do that you can maintain this look. Have a chat to hairdresser about a style that would suit your face and hair xx

Love Carey M’s thin two fishtails, may have to steal that seeing as I have just about mastered the fishtail (thanks Lauren Conrad!)
