Dress for Success

December 3, 2012 By Hair Romance Leave a Comment

Hair Romance knows the power a haircut, and Dress for Success is an organisation making this happen for women who need it the most.

Dress for Success was founded in 1996 in New York to provide suits for women attending job interviews and now operates in locations across 12 countries and has helped over 650,000 women. The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. This is achieved through a series of programs including professional makeovers, career support and mentoring programs.

I only recently became aware of Dress for Success when The Australasian College Broadway announced their charity partnership worth $570,000. This year-long partnership includes scholarships as well as style makeovers for every client of Dress for Success in Sydney.

The College’s Founder and Co-Chair Maureen Houssein-Mustafa OAM said, “The $100,000 in scholarships will enhance the lives of women in Sydney by enabling  them to access industry qualifications in a variety of fields including beauty or makeup, giving them head start to their career. We want women to be aware of the opportunities available to them, and through these initiatives we are able to offer life-changing assistance to kick start their career and their journey to financial independence.”

We all know that when you look good, you feel good. These professional makeovers can be just the boost women need to succeed in interviews and to transition back into the workforce.

If you’re interested in supporting Dress for Success through donating clothing, volunteering or would like to start a program in your town, please visit the Dress for Success website.
