This was some backstage! The dress circle at the State Theatre, plus a warren of tiny stage dressing rooms. I swear I almost got lost and found myself in the middle of the stage. It was fantastic.
Jon Pulitano, Hair Director for CloudNine and co-owner of Headcase Hair in Paddington, said the look was futuristic but still had baroque influences, and it fit the location perfectly. Models emerged from a glowing block archway to the soundtrack from 2001: A Space Odyssey yet all amongst the grandeur of the State Theatre. The inspiration for the collection was modern masquerade: “It’s straight, modern and clean but still decadent and opulent.”
How to get the look
1. Use the Cloud Nine wide iron, setting the temperature to a lower heat setting – between 125 and 150 degrees.
2. Smooth sections of hair, slightly twist the iron and glide it through the hair to create loose, natural movement with lots of gloss and shine.
3. A clean centre part will add a modern finish to the style
4. Hold the hair by using a hairspray
How to wear the look off the runway
I noticed Jon also used Cloud Nine’s The Wand to create some soft wave to the hair which was then bushed through to create a 3D effect, rather than flat straight hair.
This is an easy look to recreate and the neat centre parting is what gives it a modern edge. Try Redken Glass serum to smooth any flyaways and add shine.
Wear it with the Camilla & Marc perspex box clutches which I covet. I need one in neon pink.
I finally got to try The Wand for myself after seeing it in action at RAFW! Review coming soon but I can tell you it is so easy to use and should hit salons any day now…
