Do you have layers in your hair and find they’re always falling out of updos? Here are some quick tips and tricks to keep your hair in place.
Inspired by an email from Cassidy, who commented that
My hair is fine and layered so it is hard to get it to stay pulled back without it always falling out of place.
I also have lots of layers in my hair and it can be a pain trying to put them up. That’s probably why I prefer the messy look, and I love a few pieces of hair falling out of my updos.
If you want to have a sleek updo this is where your favourite hairspray comes in. Use a flexible hairspray to hold your layers in place, while avoiding that helmet hair look.
Here are some of my favorite hairsprays to try:
Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray, Redken Fashion Work 12, Elnett Satin Hairspray, Evo Helmut Finishing Spray, O&M Queenie Firm Hold Hairspray
If the hairspray won’t hold them, use your favorite bobby pins. If you have lots of different layers it can look messy and so I like to make a feature of it. Use gold or colored bobby pins and make it part of the hairstyle. Pin in shapes or patterns to create a look that is also functional.
What’s your trick to stop your layers falling out of updos?

I’ve always preferred the messy look with my hair as well, since I’ve been rocking layers for about 6 months now. 🙂

I’ve always thought that French braids are one of the best ways to keep layers from falling out of updos. For example, in the bobby pin pic on the left, you could skip the pins and instead run a partial French braid around that side of the head, then finish off with the bun as shown in the photo. That’s one of the reasons why I love the current trend for braids!
