Alan White used hair as a neon graphic interpretation of a flower to reflect the neon nature of the Ginger & Smart summer collection.
The show was held offsite inside David Jones department store in Sydney. I love being inside stores when they’re closed. Maybe I think it’s going to be like the movie Mannequin where they come to life and have a party at night. That’s kind of what happened for Ginger & Smart.
Behind the scenes
Interpreting the neon touches in a punk way, Alan created faux-hawks with colour accents reminiscent of an opening flower. The strong sections leave clean lines to the softer, loose ends of the hair.
Alan said braiding the hair allows you to disguise most of the models’ hair and create a less complicated looking style.
How to get the look
Step 1 – Texturise damp hair with ghd Total Volume Foam. Then apply curl hold hairspray and blow dry hair.
Step 2 – Use a serum to slick sides. Alan used ghd Smooth & Finish Serum.
Step 3 – Create 1, 2 or 3 ponytails (or more) to form a mohawk in the centre of the head.
Step 4 – Attach coloured hair extensions to ponytails.
Step 5 – Braid each ponytail leaving a section loose at the end. Pin the braid in place, adding some texture to the ends so they stand out.
The finished look
When you try the step by step, this style is easier to do than it looks. The coloured extensions add drama, or you could even try this with a hair shadow like Color Bug or pastels.
Mohawks (or faux-hawks) were a big runway trend at Australian Fashion Week. Will you try this trend?
So cool! Not conventionally ‘beautiful’, but still compelling and dramatic.
There’s something so striking about this, I want to try it
I’d love to wear that to work one day… In pink 🙂
I dare you! Xx
I won’t try this trend or my friends will think I’m nuts but I thought the braids on top looked pretty cool especially if you add some temporary colour to the tips! 🙂
haha I think you could pull this look off Norlin 🙂
