Happy Friday!
I’ve been looking into perms since predicting that they are back in 2012 and had to share these images. Is perm a dirty word for you? Is this the image you see when you hear that four letter word? Have you ever had a perm?
Things are looking good for today as I’m off to the hairdresser. I can’t wait to get my hair coloured by the fabulous Stevie of Stevie English Hair. For some reason it feels like my hair has grown faster over the new year, and I can’t wait to get my hair done. I’m not sure why it’s grown faster, maybe less heat styling?
If you follow me on Instagram you’ll get a sneak peek of my new hair today!
Hope you have a fabulous weekend! How will you be wearing your hair?

Oh my dear, dear lady – how this post made me smile!
I think I may have told you about my mother who used to perm her hair during the 80s – oh it’d be quite the addition to your collection here but in the meantime I’ve come across this most magnificient of tumblrs:

LOL
Cheryl, that is GOLD!
What decade are these from
I would love me some ‘fro. Seriously, I’d love to see what it’d be like to have a giant perm, but not actually having to perm my hair.
I’ve been rocking perms for about 10 years now (and I’m the only person under 80 who gets them, according to my hairdresser – haha!) They just give my naturally wavy hair an instant style. If I don’t have time to do anything funky with my hair before work, I can always just gel it and go and it seems like I spent time on it. Plus, curls just seem to fit my personality 🙂
By the way, thanks for your lovely blog! I stumbled upon it several months ago and now check it daily.
Thanks Ashley! Your hairdresser might be in demand now for perms as they are tricky to do and hard to find someone that does them well!
Gorgeous! This is why I loove BHF 🙂 Very appropriate too because it’s Fashion Week here in New York and on Saturday there will be a curly hair show! It’s called Texture on the Runway and I’m going with VIP access as a Brand Liason! I’m suuuper excited to go, and also that NATURAL hair texture (not just curls—that’s nice, but heat styling to create them can be just as discou raging as straightening them out) is making at least a small step in the high fashion world. Keep the big hair love coming!
Thanks Megan! That show sounds amazing, I must find out more!
I had 3 perms before I’d hit high school…needless to say Mum was a hairdresser and I was the ‘crash test dummie’… I think that would be considered child abuse in some circles 🙂
I always wonder what my hair would have been like if it hadnt been permed to the hilt!
My first perm I was only 11…flowergirl for my cousins wedding.
I have been embracing the curls lately, its been so hot and humid in Perth there aint no point trying to fight the frizzies !
Oh Karla, first perm at 11?! I thought I was the guinea pig for my sister but you definitely got it from your mum! Wish it was hot in Sydney.
The second image is very cringe-worthy (how NOT to do the wet hair look :P)! But I think the third and possibly the fourth actually seems similar to the kind of hair and make-up they’re putting on the catwalk models lately…
True! These are images from Vogue and fashion does move in circles…
I can see the perm making a comeback, after all they were hugely popular in the 80’s. After all, don’t leg warmers and perms belong together?!?
Lol! I do love leg warmers. The resurgence of curling irons means perms are definitely back!
Oh man, I did something a little different to my curls this morning, and let me tell you! It was big hair Friday worthy for sure. Needless to say, I pinned it back. Haha
Haha that happens to me too!
