Hair Chalk – Temporary hair color

January 30, 2013 By Hair Romance 17 Comments

Hair Romance - hair chalk by Urban Outfitters

Hair Romance - hair chalk from urban outfitters

Want to try some crazy hair color but only for one night?

Hair chalking is an easy temporary hair color that won me over when I reviewed the Kevin Murphy Color Bug. This set from Urban Outfitters offers an amazing array of colours and is only $14.

You can also mix and layer colors to achieve new shades in your hair. It’s messy to use, but clean up is easy. Just be careful wearing white and set your hair chalk with hairspray.

Here’s a tutorial on how to use hair chalk for dark hair and blondes.

Have you tried hair chalk?

hey, i love the idea of hair chalks. But since i have black hair, I’m not quite sure if the colors will show. Has anyone tried any of the hair chalks on dark hair? And what were your results?

Hi Drish, yes they definitely work in dark hair. You can also spray a little dry shampoo on your hair to make them show up a little brighter x

I purchased some chalks from an art supply store (Riot Art N Craft), its a very afforable option and easy for Aussies to get a hold of. I’ll link my blog post here, if that’s okay?

If you go the art supply store route (which I totally recommend), take care that you get the chalk pastels, not the oil pastels. Learn from my mistake! =(

This seems a little silly when you can get the same thing from your local art supply store (or from DickBlick: http://www.dickblick.com/products/sargent-art-square-chalk-pastels/?clickTracking=true ) for considerably less.

I saw some of the round pan-style chalks in Woolworths the other day for four or five dollars. They look like such a fun thing to try, so maybe next time I have the occasion I will! That set in particular looks amazing– what gorgeous colours! You should try some out and show them off here 🙂
