Long hair vs short hair

April 28, 2012 By Hair Romance 18 Comments

Long hair vs short hair – which do you prefer?

Natalie Portman

Halle Berry

Natalie Imbruglia

Audrey Tatou

Michelle Williams

I love that these women change their looks, and I like them all with long hair and short hair. Except Michelle Williams – short all the way.

Each of the beauties above looked much prettier and sexier with short hair. Mind you, I’m an older fella and one who always adored Hollywood glamor queens from the 1930 thru 60s. Almost all of them back then wore long, well set hair styles. Therefore, I don’t normally prefer short hair for ladies. Natalie Portman stands out for me for her good looks with shorter hair. On another website we were discussing her buzz cut and the ladies on that site did not like the look. But most of the men did and we said she would have looked even prettier if she hadn’t worn any makeup at all.

As Miss Natalie Jane says above, these lovelies stand out with short hair because they are slender. Heavier set women do not look as attractive with short hair. Therefore, if you are slender and are considering cutting your hair short, go for it! Always remember that your true beauty comes from within, not from without. Therefore, you will always be beautiful regardless of your hair length.

By the way, for those who do cut their hair, please consider donating it to a cancer group that makes wigs for poor women who have lost their hair due to illness and medical treatment. You will be doing two good things: making yourself more beautiful and helping a good cause.

    And always keep smiling! 🙂

Doesn’t count when they are all skinny beauties. Take some photos of obese hoarders and then I’ll wager the longer hair is the way to go.

I love them all both ways except Halle Barry. I love her short hair and just can’t get excited about it long.

I think the shorter styles look gorgeous and am constantly considering whether to chop my hair off. Problem is that I’m not sure it would suit my face shape as I’ve not got a beautifully sculpted face like those women. 🙂 And if it didn’t look any good it would take forever to grow back again…

My mum-in-law recently went for the chop from a medium bob and it made her look so much younger – but she also has a very good face shape for short hair.

My other concern is that if one has non-straight hair – then would short hair be harder to style than long (which I can always put up in some way if I’m having a bad hair day)?

Love your blog and the e-book too!

What kind of face shape do you have?

I just cut all my hair off about a week and a half ago, and I had the EXACT same fears you do. My face is very long, so I was worried that it would be even longer looking, but my stylist cut it so nicely that it really accentuates and suits my face shape. I couldn’t be more pleased.

As for the straight hair thing, I was worried about that too, but it’s working out for me really well. I have a natural wave, so in some places it works, in the longer section, I do have to style it, but it is SO much easier now that it’s short. Just work with your hair dresser, and they’ll be able to tell you what youw ill need to do!

      I say go for it.

I think short hair instantly makes girls look edgier. Michelle is my favorite, her cut is so perfect.

I prefer them all, except for natalie portman, with short hair. Mind you they still look stunning both ways.

Hahaha I love that your choice of pictures is just a littttttle bit biased cos you love short hair!!

I love women with short hair and I wish more girls would wear their hair like this!! I think its such a social stigma sometimes, which is so annoying – people often assume girls with short hair are lesbians, or that they dont care about their looks… at least thats what I found. I had short hair for years, am growing it out now but its just past my shoulders- ever since its grown out people are forever commenting on how feminine it is, how i look like “a real girl” now, and how its much more attractive… but all I want to do is chop it all off again! Like Michelle Williams, some of us just feel like ourselves with short hair!

I think if you are really truly pretty enough for short hair, it will always look better than long, eg Halle Berry, Emma Watson, Victoria Beckham.

I love all the short hair pics, especially Natalie Portman. I think Natalie Imbruglia looks beautiful with either hairstyle.
