The 5 hair trends from NYFW to try right now

February 22, 2012 By Hair Romance 7 Comments

Hair is one of the most versatile accessories. You know I believe it’s your best accessory.

NYFW has just finished and there’s no need to wait 6 months for the fashions to hit the stores, you can try on these NYFW hair trends right now.

Faux bob

Want to jump in on the bob trend but not sure you want to lose your long hair? Try a faux bob as seen at Oscar de le Renta and Rodarte.

Braid the underneath section of hair and pin the ends under. Tease out the top section of hair and tuck the ends under to form the bob. Use lots of pins, and lots of hairspray too!

Faux fringe

Fringes (bangs) were popular on the runways again. If you don’t want to commit you can try clip in fringe extensions or try this look from Thakoon.

The ends of the updo were left loose, then combed forward to look like a fringe. I never thought I’d suggest comb-overs, but this short fringe looks cool.

Go big or go home

Big hair was all over the place. Teased out ponytails at Nanette Lepore, big high buns at Georgine and Whit and divine big curls at Badgley Mischka and Gregory Parkinson.

Forget trying to tame your hair, embrace the texture! But make it look like it’s on purpose with neat parts, or slick sides.

Do your part

Centre parts and deep side parts are still competing for the number one place to part your hair. You know I like to mix it up so don’t limit yourself and try both.

Seeing stars

Back to Rodarte, one of my favourite shows, who brought out some fabulous hair accessories to inspire DIYers the world over. Gold and silver stars adorned the hair and metallic accessories will be a huge hair trend to add some shine.

Which hair from NYFW will you try first? Which shows gave the most hairspiration?

Hey, no worries, Caterina Dibiase (Aus HD of the year) is a genius. She has some really good how-tos on their channel. Not that you need any help at all !

This is a great tutorial from Heading Out in Melbourne for the faux bob. Hope it helps you.

I would love to give the faux bob, and big hair a try. Looks doable. I’ve done the parting one for my day-to-day look for work before, so not too scary to do again. 😉
